What is an adjustment?

An adjustment is a rapid thrust to the spine. By correcting subluxations, it helps improve the motion of the spinal joints and the functioning of the nervous system. It usually involves the use of a chiropractor’s skilled hands or, in some cases, special instruments or equipment.

What is a subluxation?

A subluxation is a misalignment in the body’s spinal structure. Subluxations cause interference to the nervous system and interfere with the vital mind-body connection required for good health.

How do I know if I have subluxations?

We have an advanced computer system, the Insight 7000, which evaluates your nervous system thoroughly. Objective data on your nervous system helps us detect soft tissue injuries. Soft tissue injuries can be difficult to detect, but the Insight 7000 makes injury detection easier. The Insight 7000 provides information on the muscular and neurological components of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC). The Insight 7000 also provides measurements of the range of motion in the spine. This objective measurement of personal injuries is one of the unique services of Family Wellness.

Do spinal adjustments hurt?

Spinal adjustments are usually painless. You may feel some soreness after an adjustment, especially during the beginning of your treatment program. If you experience any discomfort, we’ll provide you with special instructions and an ice pack to use at home. Ice packs are natural way to reduce pain and inflammation.

Does chiropractic work?

Hundreds of studies have established the benefits of chiropractic. In a recent study, a random survey of 1,000 patients revealed that 100 percent of the patients were satisfied with chiropractic care. 67 percent of the patients said that they were in less pain as a result of chiropractic treatment, and 44 percent take less medicine.

Are chiropractors real doctors?

Yes. A chiropractor actually has more classroom hours than a medical doctor. Chiropractors must pass rigorous board exams to earn the professional designation of Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.). They are licensed by the state in which they practice.

Does chiropractic help children?

Absolutely! Children receive results from chiropractic treatment more quickly than adults. Subluxations/Nervous system interference can cause many childhood illnesses. Through a regular program of chiropractic adjustments, your child’s nervous system function will improve. With a well-functioning nervous system, conditions such as colic, ear infections, scoliosis, asthma, digestive and musculoskeletal disorders, allergies, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other conditions can be treated effectively–without the use of harmful drugs. Since they began bringing their children to us for wellness care, parents have reported many improvements in their children’s health, including fewer illnesses, less medication and fewer visits to their pediatricians.

Is chiropractic safe for me and my children? Is it safe for the elderly?

Yes. Adjustments are about 100 times safer than taking aspirin. Pediatric adjustments are gentle and involve very little pressure. We have adjusted our own two children since they were four weeks old. The U.S. Government has established the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic for the elderly by providing Medicare patients with funding for chiropractic treatment. According to a recent study conducted by the Rand Corporation, elderly chiropractic patients were less likely to use prescription drugs, reported fewer health problems, were more active, and were more likely to engage in social activities. They also experienced fewer hospital and nursing home visits.

What conditions do chiropractors treat?

Many studies have confirmed that chiropractic is a safe and effective treatment for many conditions, including back and neck pain, headaches, migraines, fatigue, arthritis, stress, sciatica, respiratory ailments, digestive disorders, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Some chiropractors, called limited scope chiropractors, limit their practice to treating musculoskeletal pain and symptoms. As a full-spectrum chiropractor, I promote health and wellness and your body’s innate ability to heal. I am interested in treating causes, not just symptoms. By correcting vertebral subluxations and improving your nervous system function and adaptability to stresses, I am interested in helping you improve your total health and wellness.
